The Salvation Army is on alert to assist as needed.

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams are prepared to respond as tornadoes pursue a deadly path through several U.S. Southern states. The storm system hit Alabama and Mississippi April 28 and is headed for Georgia.

The severe weather caused the deaths of at least 11 people April 28, bringing the two-day death toll to at least 28.

The South and parts of the Midwest remain on high alert due to the continued threat of severe weather, including thunderstorms with hail and more tornadoes.

The Salvation Army’s EDS teams provide food, beverages and spiritual support to survivors and first responders in impacted areas. Disaster response teams have been deployed to assess damage, and personnel are collaborating with emergency management groups at the local, county and state levels to help.

Monetary donations are a critical need as supplies and personnel are mobilized.
