DPC-STS-landingpage-2013The Salvation Army received $25,000 through Denver Post Charities, a McCormick Foundation Fund, and its 2013-14 Season To Share campaign during a July 24 reception at The Denver Post building in downtown Denver.

A total of $1.63 million was contributed to the 2013-14 Season To Share campaign thanks to more than 6,000 gifts from donors. With the 50 percent match from the McCormick Foundation, grants of nearly $2.5 million were awarded to Denver-area charities. With The Denver Post and the McCormick Foundation paying all administrative costs, the full amount will go directly to local charities working to move people out of poverty by providing meals for those who are hungry, shelter for those who are homeless, healthcare for uninsured or underinsured patients, education programs for disadvantaged children, and literacy services for low-income adults.

The Salvation Army will use its Denver Post Charities/Season to Share funding to support the organization’s Family and Senior Homeless Initiative, a program projected to place 1,000 homeless families and seniors into long-term housing by 2015.

“We have an incredible, booming economy here in Denver,” said Intermountain Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Dan Starrett. “We also have families struggling to keep up as cost of living skyrockets and affordable housing becomes impossible to locate.”
