Mrs. Brigadier Frances Lloyd (R) was promoted to Glory on July 17 from the Keizer Retirement Village in Keizer, Ore. She was 84.
Frances was born in Redlands, Calif., to officer parents. As a young teenager she attended the Los Angeles #9 Corps and there fell in love with a young bandsman by the name of George Lloyd. After a short courtship, Frances Page and George Lloyd were married on March 26, 1930. Four years later, they entered the School for Officers’ Training in San Francisco and were commissioned with the Enthusiasts session on July 25, 1938, with the rank of Probationary Captain.
Frances and George worked as an officer team in their appointments, serving in Idaho, Washington, California, Montana, Utah, Colorado and Alaska. In 1970 they were appointed to administrative work as the managers of the Seattle Evangeline residence. Five years later, they were transferred to the San Francisco Evangeline, where they concluded their active officership in 1977.
In 1988 they relocated to Salem, Ore., where they were faithful soldiers. Frances served as Corps Cadet Guardian and enjoyed working with the youth. She was proud of her Corps Cadets, especially of Raymond Erickson-King, who was commissioned this year as a lieutenant. She became his “spiritual” mother.
She leaves behind sons Major Robert Lloyd (R) and Clifford Lloyd, and officer grandchildren Captain Jolene Hodder, Captain Robert Lloyd, Lt. James Lloyd and “foster” granddaughter Captain Laura Heilselman. Frances is survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held in Salem, Ore., with Lt. Colonel William McHarg (R) officiating, followed by a committal service at the Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif. Messages of condolence may be sent in care of: Major Robert Lloyd (R), 1851-31st Ave. NE, Salem, OR 97303.
