Promoted to Glory

Major Harland Hall was promoted to Glory on November 27 from the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif.

Born January 16, 1916 in Hereford, Colo., Harland moved with his parents to Arlington, Wash. and was raised on a chicken farm. He worked as an engineer for North American Douglas Aircraft and served as a CPO in the Navy. In 1941 he married Catherine Clarke.

The Halls were commissioned as officers in 1951 with the Ambassadors Session. The couple then pioneered the Army’s work in Flagstaff, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada, and served as corps officers in Boise and Santa Monica. They spent their last 16 years as officers in the Men’s Social Service Department, serving in Los Angeles, San Jose, Sacramento, Denver and San Diego. In 1980 they retired from the Van Nuys Center. After retirement, Major Harland filled in as corps officer in Las Vegas and Pasadena along with helping as chaplain in various ARCs.

A memorial service was held at the Santa Monica Corps with Major Edwin Henderson leading and Corps Officer Captain Brian West officiating. Interment was at the Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle, Wash.

Harland leaves behind daughter and son-in-law Majors Barry and Arlene Dooley; son and daughter-in-law Clarke and Barbie Hall; grandchildren, Catherine Dooley, Marie de Langen, Tim Dooley, Karley Hall, Kaleb Hall and Zion Hall; and great-grandchildren Oscar and Annika de Langen.
