The Salvation Army Western Territory’s leaders, Commissioners Kenneth G. and Jolene K. Hodder officially dedicated the Long Beach (California) Citadel Corps’ (LBC) new building April 2. Southern California divisional leaders Lt. Colonels Kyle and Lisa Smith attended, as did several divisional officers and Corps Advisory Board members.
“The beautiful new sanctuary was filled to capacity and there was a feeling of great anticipation and thankfulness apparent,” said LBC Songster Leader Barbara Allen.
The service began with the LBC Band (Bandmaster Steve Allen) performing the march “Fill the World with Glory,” and a video presentation that told the story of LBC past and present. After a time of praise and worship led by Joel Garcia, Commissioner Jolene K. Hodder read the Scripture. The LBC Songsters (Songster Leader Barbara Allen) sang “Can’t Carry These Burdens Alone.”

After Corps Officer Captain Sergio Garcia prayed, Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder brought the message, urging the congregation to walk forward in faith staying close to the stream of grace that is available to all followers of the Lord.
A time of prayer and dedication followed, when many people knelt at the mercy seat in response to the message.
After the final song, “I’ll Go in the Strength of the Lord,” the official unveiling of the corps’ dedication plaque took place in the courtyard.
The congregation enjoyed a buffet lunch organized by Lt. Colonel Michele Lescano and Captain Stephanie Garcia, and a short musical program from the Songsters, Band and solo vocalists.
