The Salvation Army in Hawaii announced it will assist families affected by the Jan. 19 Diamond Hill shootings and fires.

Following the tragic shootings of two Honolulu Police Department officers and the devastating fires that ensued in Honolulu’s Diamond Head neighborhood, The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division will provide financial assistance to identified families in need from the 12 homes damaged by the fire as well as to the families of the fallen officers.

“We offer our condolences and prayers to those affected by the recent Diamond Head incident,” said Victor Leonardi, Divisional Director of Emergency Services and Safety for The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division. “In collaboration with various agencies, including the FBI, American Red Cross, Victim Witness Kokua Services and Crime Victim Compensation Commission, among others, The Salvation Army will be providing financial assistance to families affected by the incident as they continue through this process. We encourage the public to support this effort by providing monetary donations at hawaii.salvationarmy.org. It’s important to note that The Salvation Army uses 100 percent of all donations designated ‘disaster relief’ in support of disaster operations.”

The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to serve those impacted by disasters, however long it takes, because they are there before, during and after impact. Beyond serving immediate physical needs, they also meet the emotional and spiritual needs that are unique to catastrophic events. The Salvation Army is part of a team of agencies providing assistance during disaster events and works closely with the State of Hawaii Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).
