At this Thanksgiving season, I am reminded again of God’s unfailing goodness and love–and am thankful for the way in which Salvationists throughout the West proclaim that love to others…

STILL NUMBER ONE

Each year, The Chronicle of Philanthropy ranks the national largest nonprofit groups by how much money they raise from private sources. This year, for the 10th consecutive time, The Salvation Army topped the Philanthropy 400 listing. That’s a wonderful vote of confidence in The Salvation Army from people throughout our nation.

Major Charlene Bradley, director of personnel at the School for Officer Training, was awarded her Master’s Degree in Christian Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary.

PHOENIX CITADEL ENROLLS 17

Corps Officer Major Harry Lacey reports that the Phoenix Citadel Corps, Arizona, had the privilege of enrolling 14 Junior and three Senior soldiers recently. “We give praise to God for the exciting evidences of spiritual renewal, revival and growth at Phoenix Citadel and anticipate even greater things for the future,” Lacey said.

DOMINGUEZ RECEIVES CATHERINE BOOTH AWARD

Kimberly Dominguez,18, was recently presented the Catherine Booth Award for accomplishments in the Tustin Ranch Corps Girl Guard Program. An honor student, she attends the University of California at Irvine where she hopes to utilize some of the many skills learned in the Girl Guard program. Judy Dominguez, her mother and assistant Girl Guard leader, helped Kimberly and the other girls to reach their goals.

OREGON ON THE GROW

Major Don Gilger, Torrance, Calif. corps officer, was special guest at the Portland Moore Street Corps to lead a spiritual gifts seminar weekend, which was titled: “Being a Christian on Purpose.” Captain Rob Birks states, “I believe the Holy Spirit will use this weekend as a springboard to effective ministry for, and fulfillment of God’s people of the Moore Street Corps.”

The Gresham Corps held evangelistic meetings with special guests from the Cascade DHQ, including Captain Kenneth Hodder, Captain Janene Zielinski, Major Phil Lum, and Captains Troy and Anie Trimmer. The Gresham Corps Worship in Motion team, Timbrel Brigade, and Singing Company participated, and corps members put up tents and barbecued for the corps and community members on Sunday. Corps officers are Majors William and Brenda Hathorn.

SAVE THIS DATE

The School for Officer Training will present its annual Dinner Theater on January 31 and February 1, 2003. Held at Crestmont College, there will be one seating on Friday night and three on Saturday. That weekend will also be the official opening of The Salvation Army Museum of the West; all are invited to visit the museum–more information will be forthcoming!
