Arizona Senator redirects campaign fundraising to Salvation Army

Arizona Senator Martha McSally announced a “15 Days of Giving” initiative, starting April 1. For 15 days, McSally for Senate will suspend all campaign fundraising and instead raise as much money as possible for The Salvation Army of Arizona.

McSally also donated her Senate paycheck for the month of April to help people impacted by the coronavirus.

“I know the coronavirus is creating a lot of uncertainty, but one thing’s for certain we will get through this together with compassion and unity,” McSally said in a YouTube video announcing her initiative. “Now is not the time for politics; it’s for generosity and helping each other…We will use all parts of my campaign and my team to raise as much money as possible to help people who are hurting.”

On April 3, McSally and a dozen of her campaign staff volunteered at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center in Phoenix.

“They made calls to seniors, delivered food and supplies to seniors who are homebound, put together dozens upon dozens of emergency food boxes, and Senator McSally was the greeter in the drive-through distribution line, asking clients what items they needed,” said Scott Johnson, Public Relations Director for The Salvation Army Southwest Division. “She was moved when hearing stories of how people have been affected by this crisis and offered compassionate words of encouragement.”

As of April 6, The Salvation Army’s online portion of the campaign had raised more than $72,000.
