Grammy-Award winning singer-songwriter Amy Grant kicked off The Salvation Army Western Territory’s 2014 Commissioning weekend with a concert June 13 at the Pasadena (Calif.) Civic Auditorium, where she had audience members on their feet, singing along to songs including “You’re Not Alone,” “Takes A Little Time,” “Baby, Baby,” and “My Father’s Eyes.”

Between songs, Grant engaged the crowd with her easy-going, down-to-earth style. She told brief stories, introduced band members and thanked the audience not only for being responsive, but for just showing up.

Acknowledging the talents of those supporting her, she said, “It feels good to use the talents that God gave us to celebrate life…and have a heart of gratitude.”

During “Our Time Is Now,” Grant gave the audience a line to sing at specified times during the song.

“This is a singing crowd,” she said, impressed by the audience’s participation. “I wish we were recording a live album. That was wonderful.”

Near the end of the show, focus shifted to the Western Territory’s Staff Songsters and Staff Band. Grant called Barbara Allen, Staff Songsters leader, to the stage and handed her the microphone. Allen sang “More Than Wonderful,” accompanied by the Songsters and Band. Grant then invited everyone to sing along to the final song, “Amazing Grace.”

Grant, who has been called “The Queen of Christian Pop,” is among the top-selling contemporary Christian singers of all time.
