WMI awards outstanding musicians

The 2017 Western Music Institute, themed “Go into the world and preach the Gospel,” brought 153 attendees from all 10 Western Territory divisions to Pine Summit Camp in Big Bear, California, Aug. 3-12 for music education and discipleship.  

This year’s awardees include:

Watt Scholarship, given to the student who demonstrates musical progress during the course of the WMI with $1,000 award to develop as a Salvation Army musician  – Edgar Martinez, Santa Ana Corps

Crestmont Award, sponsored by the Territorial Music Department, given to a corps that sends three or more delegates to WMI and whose total delegation earns the highest average in all areas of the camp program:

1st Place – San Diego Citadel

2nd Place – Pasadena Tabernacle

3rd Place – El Cajon Corps

Stillwell Award, given to the student who is outstanding in musicianship, deportment, grades and exemplifies the spirit of Christian living and Salvationism:

1st Place – David Dickinson, Anchorage Korean Corps  

2nd Place – Rachel Bach, Roseville Corps   

3rd Place – Kyle Santiago, Salem Kroc Corps
