There were plenty of smiles of admiration as 240 public officials, local dignitaries and Salvation Army board members toured San Diego’s newest Silvercrest senior residence following a recent dedication ceremony.

To many who attended the event, the new 10-story, 125 unit complex is San Diego’s most attractive building.

For Tina Rettencourt, a senior citizen struggling on a fixed income, the Silvercrest apartment is a dream come true. “This is another example of how God continues to bless me,” she said as she moved her shopping cart filled with personal treasures into her new home.

The 14.9 million dollar Silvercrest was built by Roel Construction of San Diego, who completed the project four months ahead of schedule.

“It’s been about two years since the initial groundbreaking for this building, and our seniors could not be happier,” said Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Donald Sather. “Many of these wonderful people once struggled in poverty, coping with dingy, sub-standard conditions and poor nutrition. Now, they can live in dignity with support services essential to their well-being.”

Highlighting the event was a spirited performance by the Sierra Del Mar Divisional Brass Ensemble, and an inspiring dedication address by Commissioner Peter H. Chang, who praised the many years of leadership and dedication that led to the completion of the new Silvercrest.

Vin Ciruzzi, chair of The Salvation Army Metropolitan Advisory Board, welcomed the many guests and contributors who helped make the building possible
