Salvation Army responds to Wisconsin tornado

For now, gas and electricity have been shut off in the remaining homes as first responders begin cleaning up the area.

The Salvation Army is currently on the ground in Chetek, Wisconsin, where one person was killed and 25 others injured after a tornado touched down on May 16.

The Salvation Army served breakfast to 45 individuals on the following morning and will continue to provide services to those who have been impacted by the tornado.

The area most impacted by the tornado was the Prairie Lakes Estates Mobile Home Park. A reported 15 units were completely destroyed and over a dozen were heavily damaged when the tornado tore through the neighborhood. For now, gas and electricity have been shut off in the remaining homes as first responders begin cleaning up the area. Eight homes in the neighboring Rusk County have also sustained severe damage.

The Salvation Army has deployed multiple volunteers and one canteen to the scene. Those who have responded are coordinating with local and state emergency management to serve first responders and those affected by the tornado. In addition to meal service, The Salvation Army is also providing assistance with rent and temporary housing.
