Capping a “colorful” career spanning nearly a decade, Territorial Headquarters Grounds Custodial Foreman Peter Slack retired recently, honored by officers and staff at a chapel service and reception. In honor of the occasion, Commissioner Peter H. Chang officially proclaimed the day “Peter Slack Day.”
“Whereas Peter Slack is known as one incredible worker, and again has proven himself to be an inspiration to his fellow workers, this entire day is hereby officially declared Peter Slack Day!” read Chang from the framed citation.
Throughout the chapel service, Slack was commended for the great beauty he brought to the grounds at THQ, where he nurtured and creatively cared for the gardens and lawns. From rock gardens to rose gardens to fountains, Pete’s loving handiwork continues to bless all who visit the campus.
“Pete has performed wonders in transforming the grounds here,” stated Territorial Financial Secretary Major Don McDougald. “I have a great respect for this Christian gentleman. Thank you for a job well done, for your friendly spirit, and for being a friend to many here. We’ll miss you!”
A native of England, Slack came to the U.S. in the early 1950s. A lifelong Salvationist, he is an active soldier at the Tustin Ranch Corps, where he is also a bandsman and songster.
In retirement, he and his wife Joan will live at: 4880 Point Loma Place, Oceanside, CA 92057.
