Mesa corps distributes food, water and ice to 100 residents
The Salvation Army is providing limited assistance to families affected by the Sept. 8 flash flooding incident in the greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. The Salvation Army is expecting to have representatives at the Recovery Information Centers in Phoenix and Mesa, Ariz.
According to CNN, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer declared a statewide emergency after flash floods took over the streets due to the intense rain from Hurricane Norbert—which first hit the Mexican coast—that poured down on the southwestern United States leaving cars submerged and two people dead.
After seeing that approximately 100 families would not have electricity until the morning after the storm, the Mesa Salvation Army was able to deliver bags of ice, bottled water and snacks to people in the affected area.
Given that some households are still without power, The Salvation Army canvassed the neighborhood on Sept. 10 to pass out information to interested families in the immediate area on where they would be able to receive more water and food that day.
