“Fisher House”

WILMORE, KY–Asbury College honored Salvation Army Major Annette Fisher McInnes and the late Dr. Lee Fisher recently during a ceremony dedicating a new Asbury building in their honor. Fisher House is part of Aldersgate Commons, the newest addition to Asbury’s student housing facilities. Aldersgate Commons is a group of four apartment style complexes that house 24 students each.

The ceremony was part of a week-long celebration that included a luncheon for the honorees and their family members, an Aldersgate Commons open house and a performance of “The Man From Aldersgate,” a one-man show about the life of John Wesley performed by Roger Nelson.

Fisher was a 1947 graduate of Asbury College. He was a professor of Psychology and the founder of the College’s tutorial program. As men’s head resident for more than 20 years and leader of the College’s first “Broken Homes Fellowship,” he had the opportunity to impact the lives of countless students.

His work, however, reached beyond campus borders. He was well known throughout The Salvation Army, speaking across the country at leadership, youth and pastoral conferences.

It was front page news when Fisher, a longtime bachelor married Annette Smith in 1972. Her commitment to teaching psychology, counseling students and Asbury College paralleled his.

A member of the class of 1964, McInnes continued to head the college’s counseling center after her husband’s death. With her present husband, Major Earle McInnes, she continues her ministry as a counselor and officer in The Salvation Army at Territorial Headquarters in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
